Becoming parents is both an obligation and an honor. It is an obligation because you should be the one who's providing the needs of your kids. While it is an honor because you are given a chance to nurture them and give what they deserve so that as they grow older, they are in the right path.

In our country, we have numerous traditions and norms. One of these is the christening or 'binyag' of our newborn child. Christening is the way of welcoming a child to the Christian world through ceremony in church lead by a priest.
As part of 'binyag,' we have this thing called 'ninong' and 'ninang' or godparents in english. Godparents are the ones who becomes the second parents of the child. Parents choose their trusted relatives or friends that will stand as a godparent.

Another part of 'binyag' is the 'pakimkim' or giving an amount of money as offering to your 'inaanak.' Most of the time, 'pakimkim' is giving money, and gifts, are other material things.
Related to this, one post of a 'ninang' goes viral showing a conversation with her 'kumare' lending a thousand peso from her. The conversation goes like this, her 'kumare' message her asking to spare her some money for her 'inaanak's' diaper. Ninang said to her money that she wasn't able to lend her because she has no extra.

Her 'kumare' keep on insisting that she have money because she's working and earning a big amount. Ninang got a little bit offended because she feels like she is being obliged to give because it is for her 'inaanak.' So she asked her 'kumare' where is her husband because he should be the one who's providing the needs of his child.
'Kumare' got mad and throw unnecessary words at her to the point that she said she regrets on her decision to make her the 'ninang' of her daughter. 'Ninang' kept her hair on and just laugh at her 'kumare' because she finds it funny to act like that.
The end of the conversation is even funnier and worse at the same time. Her 'kumare' asked to her to pay the food that she ate during the 'binyag' because according to her 'kumare' the 500 peso 'pakimkim' from her is too small amount and even questioned her what could the 500 peso can buy.
The netizens found it hilarious and irritating at the same time. There have been many instances like this shared by 'ninong' or 'ninang' that went viral.
For the netizens, it is wrong that you obliged your kumares and kumpares to give money to their inaanak. Because being the godparents of your child is more than just giving materialistic things. They can also give knowledge or moral support and other non-material things that they can have for a lifetime. It is not always the material things that matter.
